Born and raised in rural Somerset County, Pennsylvania, I developed an early love
for the woods and for all things outdoors.  My affinity for flowing water began with my
boyhood explorations to fish local mountain headwater streams for native brook trout.
Desiring to share what I had seen during these excursions, I began to use a camera.
Nothing has changed much now, except that I have better cameras!   Military service
allowed me to see the sights of Alaska, Australia, Japan, Hawaii, and New Zealand;
after that, I went out West  ‘just to look around,’  eventually spending many years in
Montana, then western Washington, becoming a schoolteacher along the way.  I was
totally captivated by high wilderness, especially in the Rockies, and I did my best to
explore it all, hiking alpine trails, rafting the rivers, and traveling thousands of miles
by car and motorcycle on back roads, ‘just to look around’ and take lots of pictures.
After 9/11, however, when Flight 93 crashed virtually in my hometown, I decided to
move back to PA, feeling the need to live closer to my family.  I’m now rediscovering
those little streams of my youth (and finding even more), and I’m doing my best to share
their magical beauty with you by bringing back my vision of them on film.    Yes, film!

Why do I shoot just water?  I do occasionally take pictures of other subjects, but
at least 95% of my shots are of water.  Not just any water, though.   I favor what has
been called ‘the intimate landscape,’ or in my case ‘waterscapes,’  -- those very small
creeks I’ve mentioned.  There’s a quality of lightness to them, lightheartedness maybe,
a contagious, youthful spirit about their look and sound that beckons me to them and
makes me reluctant to leave.  For me, any day on a stream is always a day well spent.

I truly love these special places and the work of capturing them for others to see.
It’s my hope that my passion for the subject and my dedication to quality are evident.
I welcome all feedback about my work – just write me an email using the ‘comments’
feature in the menu bar, and I’ll reply as soon as I possibly can.  I hope you’ve enjoyed
your visit to my website.  Please come here often;  it will be updated and expanded often.
Again, any comment or question is welcome.  Thank you for visiting CoolWaterPictures!
